Welcome to Walks around Pendle
Good afternoon!
Welcome to a walking site devoted to Pendle and the surrounding districts, all areas of breath-taking scenery, historic places, market towns and charming, sleepy villages. |
The walks on the site vary from leisurely strolls by rivers or canals to more
daunting day treks. Each walk includes detailed instructions of the route, where
to park, length of the walk, grade of the walk with numerous photographs along
the way. |
Why not make a weekend or even a week’s break out of your walk. With thousands of places to stay, eat, drink, shop and attractions to visit listed on this site, there is something to suit everyone. |
The walks are mainly concentrated at present within about 10 miles of Pendle Hill
itself, but over time will cover the whole of Lancashire. Pendle Hill rises 577
metres high and looms over the surrounding areas. Over the years Pendle has
become many things to many people – whether the interest lies in witchcraft
through the trials in 1612, or Quakerism through the visit of George Fox in
1652, or simply through visiting the many pretty villages such as Barley,
Newchurch, Roughlee and Downham to name but a few, everyone has their own
thoughts and impressions of it. |
The area itself is steeped in history, with the transition from agriculture to textiles to the modern day all leaving their footprint on the land, villages and buildings. |
